Neill Deal Off?

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has warned that he is ready to pull the plug on the Lucas Neill deal if he continues to stall over money.

The Australian was expected to complete a hassle-free switch to Anfield this January for a bargain price as his Blackburn deal ends in the summer.

But interest from West Ham has apparently seen Neill's representatives demanding more money - quoted at £30,000 a week.

"We are continuing working on these things but we will not wait. If a player wants to come to play for Liverpool, he must say yes quickly," said Benitez in the Liverpool Echo.

"If he thinks about it for too long, maybe it's a signal it's time for us to look for other players. We have alternatives."

Drogballs: If he's really that 'greedy' then sorry, you're not welcomed aboard. We are looking for passionate players who are intelligent and hardworking. Now it just looked as if Neill is a thug who's greedy. Good luck, let's move on before it drags on further.

im seriously annoyed if this is true...
Players like Neill should feel honored to have the prospect of playing for a prestigious club like Liverpool... go to West Ham for all the money in the world for all i care, the squad they have will never reach the standards of Chelski, even if they could match money Chelski spent, why? coz they will be lacking that world class manager to organize a world class team...

I agree and disagree at the same time. I think players should feel honoured to play for our club and I think they do once they are there however I suspect that they would know little about the real history of the club until they get there.

Neill is a good defender who has had interest from alot of clubs including Barcelona if you beleive the rumours. From a business sense it would be stupid to not go for a bigger pay check especially if you have no emotional ties to either club. If however he wants to win things then he is a fool for signing for west ham AND if he actually is a reds supporter then i say good riddance. Fowler took a pay cut to come back and he is twice the player Neill is.

well Fowler and Neill are different, Fowler's a multimillionaire from his real estate success... He's playing for Liverpool coz he enjoys it...

U're right, if Neill wants to win things, joining Liverpool is obvious..well considering his age and his current club, i guess that whatever ambitions he had before were all buried... coz he could never imagine success with Blackburn...
and with his age in mind, i guess that his family's welfare and his future financial security is of greater importance than winning trophies. Whatever it is, im not interested whether he joins Liverpool or not, coz hes not a huge prospect like Agger, nor is he world class level defender, and furthermore hes ageing, none of that helps...
Join West Ham, the Championship + Money would be a better choice for Neill imo... i dun want Liverpool to have trouble offloading him 2 or 3 seasons from now...

So ultimately it's still up to him whether he's going down the path of having financial security or winning more glory for himself in years to come.

Both have it's pros and cons. Not as if he's a goner if he joins West Ham. What if he really joins the 'ammers and they stay up? He'll be a hero!

Whatever it is, I still think we could get a better cover than Neill. I don't think Rafa will stop his search right here. Liam Rosenior is another choice but I hope we build a winning team, not a 'potentially good, maybe good, maybe bad' team.
